FAQ
Straight answers.
Do I need a scale?
Yes. MixMargin prices what you weigh, so a standard colour scale is the only hardware you need. Grams in, cost and price out.
How does it know what a gram costs?
From your own product data: wholesale cost divided by container size, adjusted for unit and density. If a product has no cost, MixMargin flags the bowl as a partial estimate rather than guessing.
Do I have to type in my whole backbar?
No. There's a shared catalogue of 1,148 professional shades you can import in bulk, then set your own costs and stock. You can also add products manually.
Can different brands price differently?
Yes. There's a salon default markup plus per-brand overrides, applied when a bowl is single-brand.
Does inventory really deduct itself?
Completing a session subtracts the grams you mixed from stock. You receive new stock by container count, and per-shade low-stock thresholds warn you before you run out mid-head.
What happens to formulas?
Completing a ticket writes the formula — bowls, shades, grams — to that client's colour history. "Repeat last formula" rebuilds it for the next visit.
Can I invoice from it?
Yes. Invoices generate from a completed session with colour charges, add-ons and services itemised, then move through draft, issued, paid and overdue with your own numbering and effective-dated tax rates.
Is my salon's data separate from other salons?
Yes. Every record is scoped to your salon by row-level security in the database, and photos, receipts and invoice PDFs sit in private per-salon storage.
Does it work on the salon floor?
It's built for both: a desktop sidebar layout and mobile bottom tabs, with camera capture for before/after photos.
How do I get in?
Access is by request while we onboard salons in small batches, so setup — backbar, markup, tax — gets done properly with you.
